David William Sanborn, conhecido como David Sanborn nasceu a 30 de Julho de 1945 em Tampa na Flórida nos Estados Unidos.


É conhecido por ter sido um excepcional Saxofonista Alto que criou pontes entre o Jazz, R&B and Instrumental Pop, tendo ganho 6 Grammys e influenciado um sem número de artistas desde 1975, altura em que lançou o seu primeiro de 25 álbuns entitulado "Taking Off".


Contraíu Polio (parelisia infantil) aos 3 anos e como parte da sua terapia começou a estudar saxofone para reforçar os músculos do peito e a respiração aos 11 anos, e aos 14 anos tocava já com estrelas como Albert King e Little Milton. Seguiram-se estudos nas Universidades de Northwestern e depois Iowa onde tocou e teve aulas com saxofonista JR Monterose.


Na sua carreira de 60 anos passou por Woodstock e tocou com Stevie Wonder, David Bowie, Jaco Pastorius, Eric Clapton, Nena, Rolling Stones, entre muitos muitos outros como Marcus Miller, famoso baixista que devido à sua amizade com Chude Mondlane (filha de Eduardo Mondlane) compôs "Maputo" que lhe valeu o segundo grammy em 1986 e ouvimos agora de fundo.


Trabalhou ainda em variados programas de Televisão (como Night Music) e Rádio (The Jazz Show with David Sanborn) divulgando activamente música e artistas.


Vem a falecer a 18 de Maio de 2024 com 78 anos deixando-nos um som único e característico, legado de modernismo e novas procuras que perduram na música actual.

Er ist bekannt für seine herausragenden Fähigkeiten als Altsaxophonist und seine Brücken zwischen Jazz, R&B und Instrumental-Pop. Sanborn gewann sechs Grammys und beeinflusste seit 1975, als er sein erstes von 25 Alben "Taking Off" veröffentlichte, zahlreiche Künstler.


Mit 3 Jahren erkrankte er an Kinderlähmung und begann mit 11 Jahren als Teil seiner Therapie Saxophon zu spielen. Bereits mit 14 Jahren spielte er mit Stars wie Albert King und Little Milton. Er studierte an den Universitäten von Northwestern und Iowa, wo er Unterricht bei Saxophonist JR Monterose hatte.


In seiner 60-jährigen Karriere spielte er bei Woodstock und mit Künstlern wie Stevie Wonder, David Bowie, Jaco Pastorius, Eric Clapton, Nena, den Rolling Stones und vielen anderen, wie dem berühmten Bassisten Marcus Miller. Dank seiner Freundschaft mit Chude Mondlane (Tochter von Eduardo Mondlane) komponierte Miller "Maputo", wofür Sanborn 1986 seinen zweiten Grammy gewann.
