Michael Leonard Brecker ou Michael Brecker nasceu a 29 de março de 1949 em Philadelphia, Pensilvânia, EUA.
Filho de um advogado apaixonado por jazz e irmão mais novo do trompetista Randy Brecker, desde cedo mostrou talento e sensibilidade musical, foi um saxofonista tenor, mas também explorou o EWI (Electronic Wind Instrument).
Tinha uma tĆ©cnica acutilante, som robusto e uma linguagem harmónica profundamente influenciada por Coltrane ā mas com uma voz totalmente própria e deixou a sua marca em contextos de jazz, rock, funk e fusĆ£o.
Participou em mais de 700 gravaƧƵes como mĆŗsico de estĆŗdio ā desde Paul Simon a Herbie Hancock, passando por James Taylor, Joni Mitchell, Dire Straits e muitos outros.
Baseado em Nova Iorque, tornou-se referência tanto nos estúdios como nos palcos, músicos de todas as Ôreas o procuravam pela sua capacidade de improvisar, emocionar e elevar qualquer canção.
Vencedor de 15 Grammys (entre trabalhos como lĆder e colaborador) recebeu o tĆtulo de Doutor Honoris Causa pelo Berklee College of Music.
Vem a falecer no dia 13 de janeiro de 2007 com 57 anos, em Nova Iorque, EUA vĆtima de uma leucemia rara. Ć unanimemente reconhecido como um dos maiores improvisadores do seu tempo.

Michael Leonard Brecker, or simply Michael Brecker, was born on March 29, 1949, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA.
The son of a jazz-loving lawyer and younger brother of trumpeter Randy Brecker, he showed musical talent and sensitivity from an early age. He was a tenor saxophonist, but also explored the EWI (Electronic Wind Instrument).
He had a piercing technique, a robust sound, and a harmonic language deeply influenced by Coltrane ā yet with a completely unique voice. He left his mark in contexts of jazz, rock, funk, and fusion.
He took part in over 700 recordings as a studio musician ā from Paul Simon to Herbie Hancock, including James Taylor, Joni Mitchell, Dire Straits, and many others.
Based in New York, he became a reference both in studios and on stage. Musicians from all genres sought him out for his ability to improvise, move, and elevate any song.
Winner of 15 Grammy Awards (as both a leader and collaborator), he was awarded an Honorary Doctorate from Berklee College of Music.
He passed away on January 13, 2007, at the age of 57, in New York City, USA, due to a rare form of leukemia. He is unanimously recognized as one of the greatest improvisers of his time.

Michael Leonard Brecker, oder einfach Michael Brecker, wurde am 29. MƤrz 1949 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA geboren.
Als Sohn eines jazzbegeisterten Anwalts und jüngerer Bruder des Trompeters Randy Brecker zeigte er schon früh musikalisches Talent und Sensibilität. Er war ein Tenorsaxophonist, erforschte aber auch das EWI (Electronic Wind Instrument).
Er verfügte über eine scharfe Technik, einen kraftvollen Klang und eine harmonische Sprache, die stark von Coltrane beeinflusst war ā und dennoch hatte er eine vƶllig eigene Stimme. Er hinterlieĆ seine Spuren im Jazz, Rock, Funk und Fusion.
Er wirkte bei über 700 Aufnahmen als Studiomusiker mit ā von Paul Simon bis Herbie Hancock, über James Taylor, Joni Mitchell, Dire Straits und viele mehr.
Mit Wohnsitz in New York wurde er sowohl im Studio als auch auf der Bühne zu einer festen GrƶĆe. Musiker aus allen Stilrichtungen suchten ihn wegen seiner FƤhigkeit auf, zu improvisieren, zu berühren und jedem Stück neue Hƶhen zu verleihen.
Er gewann 15 Grammy Awards (sowohl als Bandleader als auch als Mitwirkender) und erhielt einen Ehrendoktortitel des Berklee College of Music.
