Lô Borges de seu nome Salomão Borges Filho nasceu a 10 de Janeiro de 1952 no Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, Brasil.

É conhecido por ter sido fundador do "Clube da Esquina" com Milon Nascimento e co-autor de várias outras canções que reinventaram a Música Popular Brasileira, tendo aproximado o espírito experimental do tropicalismo à linguagem pop dos Beatles, misturando rock, harmonias sofisticadas numa sonoridade que influenciou gerações.

Depois da explosão precoce de 1972, com o Clube da Esquina e o ‘disco do ténis’, Lô Borges recua um pouco da ribalta, mas volta no fim dos anos 70 e vê as suas canções ganharem voz em gigantes como Elis Regina, Tom Jobim e Paralamas do Sucesso. Nos anos 90 cruza o seu universo mineiro com o jazz internacional, em faixas com Pat Metheny, e a partir dos anos 2000 reencontra uma nova geração de público através do Skank, de Samuel Rosa e Nando Reis.

Gravou no total 25 Discos, alguns deles com letras da sua mulher Patricia Maês com quem teve um filho.

Vem a falecer a 2 de Novembro de 2025 em Belo Horizonte com 73 anos e deixa-nos canções que continuam a iluminar a música brasileira e a vida de quem as escuta.

Lô Borges, born Salomão Borges Filho, came into the world on January 10, 1952, in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, Brazil.

He is known for being one of the founders of the Clube da Esquina movement alongside Milton Nascimento and for co-writing many songs that reinvented Brazilian Popular Music. His work brought together the experimental spirit of Tropicalismo with the pop language of the Beatles, blending rock, sophisticated harmonies and a unique sound that influenced generations.

After the early explosion of 1972, with Clube da Esquina and the famous “tennis-shoe album,” Lô Borges stepped back a little from the spotlight, but returned in the late 1970s as his songs were embraced by giants such as Elis Regina, Tom Jobim and Paralamas do Sucesso. In the 1990s, he connected his Minas Gerais universe with international jazz, recording tracks with Pat Metheny, and from the 2000s onward he reached a new audience through Skank, Samuel Rosa and Nando Reis.

He recorded a total of 25 albums, some featuring lyrics written by his wife Patricia Maês, with whom he had one son.

He passed away on November 2, 2025, in Belo Horizonte at the age of 73, leaving behind songs that continue to illuminate Brazilian music and the lives of all who listen to them.

Lô Borges, mit vollständigem Namen Salomão Borges Filho, wurde am 10. Januar 1952 in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, Brasilien, geboren.

Er wurde bekannt als einer der Gründer des Clube da Esquina zusammen mit Milton Nascimento und als Mitautor vieler Lieder, die die brasilianische Popmusik neu erfunden haben. Seine Musik verband den experimentellen Geist des Tropicalismo mit der Pop-Sprache der Beatles und mischte Rock, raffinierte Harmonien und einen eigenen Klang, der Generationen geprägt hat.

Nach dem frühen Durchbruch von 1972 mit dem Clube da Esquina und dem berühmten „Tennisschuh-Album“ zog sich Lô Borges etwas aus dem Rampenlicht zurück. Ende der Siebziger kehrte er jedoch zurück, und seine Lieder wurden von großen Künstlern wie Elis Regina, Tom Jobim und Paralamas do Sucesso aufgenommen. In den Neunzigern verband er seine „Mineiro“-Welt mit internationalem Jazz und nahm Stücke mit Pat Metheny auf. Ab den 2000er-Jahren fand er ein neues Publikum über Skank, Samuel Rosa und Nando Reis.

Insgesamt veröffentlichte er 25 Alben, einige davon mit Texten seiner Frau Patricia Maês, mit der er einen Sohn hatte.

Er starb am 2. November 2025 in Belo Horizonte im Alter von 73 Jahren und hinterlässt Lieder, die die brasilianische Musik und das Leben der Menschen weiterhin erhellen.
