Jack White, born Horst Nußbaum, came into the world on September 2, 1940, in Cologne, Germany.

He is known for having been a football player, but even more for becoming a composer and producer of songs with enormous international impact — such as “Gloria” and “Self Control” sung by Laura Branigan, “Looking for Freedom” immortalized by David Hasselhoff, and “How Am I Supposed to Live Without You,” interpreted by Michael Bolton.

The son of a butcher, he completed his schooling in the post-war years and, in the evenings, trained as an interpreter in English, Italian, and Dutch. At the same time, he was discovered by Hennes Weisweiler (who also coached Schuster, Littbarski, and Jupp Heynckes) and played professionally as a midfielder and full-back for Viktoria Köln from 1961, moving to PSV Eindhoven four years later.

Meanwhile, his passion for music was already taking shape and, despite releasing a few records as a singer without major success, he realised that his path lay in composing and producing. He returned to Germany in 1966 and settled in Berlin, where he began working with labels and studios during the day, while continuing to play football as an amateur for Tennis Borussia Berlin.

It was in that decade that his first hits appeared, such as “Schöne Maid,” and he soon became sought after by German singers, eventually changing his name to reach international markets. Nicknamed a “hit machine,” he recorded 25 albums of his own and contributed to another 2,500 as producer, composer, or collaborator, earning around 400 gold and platinum records and even a rare “Diamond Record” for more than 100 million sales worldwide.

He married four times and had seven children. He passed away on October 16, 2025, at the age of 85, from natural causes, at home and surrounded by work — leaving behind a full life, marked by songs, perseverance, reinvention, and a legacy that stretches across continents and generations.

Filho de um talhante, fez os estudos normais do pós-guerra e, à noite, formou-se como intérprete em inglês, italiano e holandês. Paralelamente no futebol foi descoberto por Hennes Weisweiler (o mesmo que descobriu Schuster, Littbarski e Jupp Heynckes) e jogou profissionalmente como médio e defesa-lateral no Viktoria Köln a partir de 1961, chegando inclusive ao PSV Eindhoven quatro anos mais tarde.

Entretanto, a paixão pela música já se fazia sentir e, apesar de ter lançado alguns discos como cantor sem grande sucesso, percebe que o seu caminho passa mais pela composição e pela produção musical. Regressa então à Alemanha em 1966 e instala-se em Berlim, onde, durante o dia, começa a trabalhar com editoras e estúdios, enquanto continua a jogar futebol, agora como amador, no Tennis Borussia Berlin.

É nessa década que começam a surgir os primeiros sucessos como "Schöne Maid” e começa a ser procurado por cantores alemães mudando entretanto o seu nome para atingir os mercados internacionais. Apelidado como uma máquina de hits gravou 25 discos próprios e colaborou noutros 2500 como produtor ou compositor tendo ganho cerca de 400 discos de ouro e platina e até uma raríssima “Diamant-Schallplatte”, por mais de 100 milhões de discos vendidos em todo o mundo.

Casou-se quatro vezes e teve sete filhos. Vem a falecer a 16 de outubro de 2025 em Berlim, aos 85 anos, por causas naturais, em casa e rodeado de trabalho, deixando para trás uma vida cheia, marcada por canções, perseverança, reinvenção e um legado que atravessa continentes e gerações.

Parallel dazu wurde er von Hennes Weisweiler entdeckt (dem Trainer von Schuster, Littbarski und Jupp Heynckes) und spielte ab 1961 professionell als Mittelfeldspieler und Außenverteidiger für Viktoria Köln, bevor er vier Jahre später sogar zum PSV Eindhoven wechselte.

Inzwischen war seine Leidenschaft für die Musik immer stärker geworden. Obwohl er als Sänger einige Platten veröffentlichte, jedoch ohne großen Erfolg, erkannte er, dass sein Weg vor allem in der Komposition und der Musikproduktion lag. 1966 kehrte er nach Deutschland zurück und ließ sich in Berlin nieder, wo er tagsüber für Plattenfirmen und Studios arbeitete und gleichzeitig weiterhin Fußball spielte – nun als Amateur beim Tennis Borussia Berlin.

In diesem Jahrzehnt entstanden seine ersten großen Erfolge, darunter „Schöne Maid“, und er wurde zunehmend von deutschen Sängern gesucht. Zur gleichen Zeit änderte er seinen Namen, um auf internationalen Märkten besser wahrgenommen zu werden. Bekannt als eine wahre „Hitmaschine“ veröffentlichte er 25 eigene Alben und wirkte an weiteren 2.500 Produktionen als Produzent, Komponist oder Mitwirkender mit. Insgesamt erhielt er rund 400 Gold- und Platinauszeichnungen sowie sogar eine seltene „Diamant-Schallplatte“ für mehr als 100 Millionen verkaufte Tonträger weltweit.

Er war viermal verheiratet und hatte sieben Kinder. Jack White starb am 16.
